Description

Juicy, tender beef patties are layered with melty cheese, topped with buttery onions, and stuffed between sweet, pillowy-soft Hawaiian rolls.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs 80/20 ground beef
  • 12 pack Hawaiian rolls
  • 11 slices Colby jack cheese or American cheese
  • 1 large sweet onion, diced
  • 24 dill pickles
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cracked pepper
  • Easy Burger Sauce:
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1.5 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 2 teaspoons pickle juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to broil.

2. Slice a pack of Hawaiian rolls horizontally. Place them cut side up, side-by-side, on a lined baking sheet. Melt 4 tablespoons of butter and use a basting brush to butter the inside of all the rolls. Broil in the oven for 3-4 minutes until golden brown (keeping an eye on them to prevent burning).

3. Reduce heat to bake at 350 degrees.

4. In a large mixing bowl, add the ground beef, along with the salt and cracked pepper. Mix well. Press the seasoned beef evenly into a 9×13 casserole dish. Bake for 20 minutes.

5. While the beef is cooking, sauté the onions in a pan over low heat with 1 tablespoon of butter until browned, about 15 minutes.

6. Once the beef is cooked, drain well, discarding the pan juices.

7. Assemble the sliders: with the buns still on a baking pan, add a layer of pickles to the bottom of the toasted buns. Using two spatulas, carefully transfer the slab of beef to place it on the bottom buns. Top with a double layer of cheese. Then add the onions in an even layer and place the top buns back on.

8. Brush the top buns with 1 tablespoon of melted butter. If desired, top immediately with sesame seeds. Return to the oven for 15 more minutes or until the cheese has melted.

Notes

Change up the toppings by adding bacon, tomatoes, pickled red onions, and more! Be sure to select toppings that will not wilt, and instead, just have lettuce available on the side to add to the burgers as you go.

Use ground turkey or ground chicken instead of ground beef. Those both work great for this recipe.

Choose a different cheese option. Whether you add a kick of heat with pepper jack, add smokiness with gouda, or go all-American with Kraft Singles, you can make these your own.
