Description

These flaky and buttery puff pastry hearts are perfect for sweet or savory snacking. Easy to customize and bake, they make adorable treats for Valentine’s Day, parties, or anytime you want to show a little love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
  • 23 tablespoons granulated sugar (for sweet versions) or herbs and cheese (for savory versions)
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted (for brushing)
  • 1 egg (optional, for egg wash)
  • For sweet puff pastry hearts:
  • 23 tablespoons fruit jam or chocolate spread (optional for filling)
  • For savory puff pastry hearts:
  • 1 tablespoon grated cheese (cheddar, Parmesan, or mozzarella)
  • Fresh herbs such as rosemary or thyme (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface.

2. Use a sharp knife or heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut the puff pastry into heart shapes. Set aside.

3. For sweet hearts: Spread a thin layer of fruit jam or chocolate spread in the center of each heart.

4. For savory hearts: Sprinkle grated cheese and optional herbs in the center of each heart.

5. Fold the edges of the puff pastry hearts over the filling, leaving a small border or creating a frilled edge if desired.

6. Brush the tops with melted butter or egg wash for a golden finish.

7. Place the hearts on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them evenly.

8. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until golden and puffed.

9. Remove from oven and let cool slightly. For sweet versions, dust with powdered sugar. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.

These can be made ahead and frozen before baking — just thaw and bake when ready.

Perfect for Valentine’s Day, bridal showers, or party snacks.
