Description

Chicken sausage, orzo, and broccoli simmer together for a flavorful, hassle-free skillet dish topped with parmesan.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups orzo pasta
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound chicken sausage, sliced
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced chicken sausage and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned, about 5 to 7 minutes.

2. Add minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for about 1 minute until aromatic.

3. Stir in broccoli florets and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, allowing them to begin softening.

4. Add orzo, chicken broth, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Bring mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer.

5. Cover skillet and cook for 10 to 12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until orzo is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed.

6. Remove from heat and stir in grated Parmesan cheese until fully melted and well incorporated.

7. Portion hot orzo skillet onto plates and garnish with chopped fresh parsley.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, replace chicken sausage with plant-based sausage or sautéed mushrooms.

A pinch of red pepper flakes may be added for extra heat.

Other vegetables such as bell peppers, zucchini, or spinach can be substituted or added.

Stir in a spoonful of cream cheese or a splash of heavy cream for a creamier consistency.

Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days.
