Bursting with flavors of tart cranberries and savory turkey, these stuffing balls offer a delightful twist on traditional stuffing—perfect for any festive gathering.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen cranberries, chopped
- 1 cup chopped celery
- 1 cup chopped onions
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 can (10 1/2 ounces) condensed cream of chicken soup
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 1/2 teaspoon dried sage
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 6 cups cubed bread stuffing mix
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add chopped celery and onions, and sauté until the vegetables are tender.
3. Stir in the condensed cream of chicken soup, chicken broth, sage, thyme, and black pepper. Mix well to create a velvety sauce.
4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cubed bread stuffing mix with the sauce from the skillet. Mix in the chopped cranberries to create a textured stuffing mixture.
5. In another bowl, combine the ground turkey, beaten eggs, and optional nuts. Mix until well incorporated.
6. Add the stuffing mixture to the turkey mixture. Using your hands, carefully mix everything together until well combined.
7. Form the mixture into 2-inch balls, packing them tightly to maintain their shape.
8. Place the stuffing balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or lightly greased.
9. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the stuffing balls are firm and the turkey is thoroughly cooked.
10. Remove from the oven, let them cool for a few minutes, and serve warm as a delightful appetizer or holiday side dish.
Notes
These stuffing balls can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated until ready to bake.
Consider adding dried cranberries if you prefer a sweeter flavor.
Try using ground chicken instead of turkey for a slightly different taste.
These make excellent leftovers; just reheat in the oven at 300°F (150°C) until warmed through.
Serve with a side of gravy or cranberry sauce for dipping.
